2nd Vocabulary Entry

Word: Poverty
Meaning: a state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money.
Example: His line is that relative poverty doesn't matter, only absolute poverty does.

Word: Destitution 
Meaning: without money, food, a home or possessions.
Example: Destitution has become a major problem in capital.
Word: Inability
Meaning: the quality or state of being unable; lack of ability, capacity, means, or power.
Example: Stress can be defined as a perceived inability to cope with an unpleasant or painful life situation.

Word: Incapable
Meaning: lacking the necessary ability, competence, or strength. 
Example: I seem totally incapable of making my brain function at a rapid pace.

Word: Starvation
Meaning: the state of being starved.
Example: Refusing food and shelter, and forcing people to suffer starvation is as bad as killing people with bullets in a dictator's regime.

Word: Deprivation
Meaning: a loss.
Example: Inevitably, pain killers, drugs, and sleep deprivation all add to the stress load.

Word: Dearth
Meaning: lack or small supply of something.
Example:  The convenience store with no healthy, fresh foods is an example of a dearth of produce.

Word: Thwart
Meaning: to hinder, to stop or to prevent something from happening.
Example: An example of thwart is when you catch your kids in the process of sneaking out.

Word: Famine
Meaning: an acute and general shortage of food, or a period of this.
Example: Libyans began flooding into the country, not as conquerors but apparently as refugees fleeing famine in North Africa.

Word: Drought
Meaning: a long period of time when there is no rain.
Example: There are, for example, concerns that beach trees may not survive extreme or prolonged droughts.
